Neighborhood Notice

Dear Resident,

We’re writing to share information about an important environmental monitoring project in your neighborhood.

Resource Environmental L.L.C. (RELLC), an environmental management company, has been asked by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to conduct drilling and well installation activities on Crescent Drive near Crescent Lane. This effort, in partnership with AECOM and a drilling subcontractor under NYSDEC’s supervision, is part of an ongoing initiative to monitor groundwater conditions related to historic leaks at two former gas stations at Old Country Road and Plainview Road.

To ensure you’re fully informed, we’d like to reassure you of the following:

  • We are assessing groundwater located deep below the surface—approximately 300–500 feet underground.
  • There are no human health risks associated with this work. The potentially impacted groundwater poses no danger through inhalation, ingestion, or direct contact, and it does not affect the surface or residential properties in the area.
  • The public drinking water supply is routinely tested and meets all state and federal standards, ensuring it remains safe for your use. This project will not impact the drinking water supply.

What to Expect:
The work will involve installing two adjacent groundwater monitoring wells on Crescent Drive, between Crescent Court and Martin Lane (please see the map on the reverse side of this notice). These wells will be placed in the grassy strip between the sidewalk and the curb. The project will begin in Spring 2025 and is expected to take approximately 30 business days, with work scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We are committed to minimizing any disruption to your neighborhood during this time.

While it may be noisy at times in the immediate area of the drilling, please know that we will work to keep disturbances to a minimum. We’ll also ensure the area is safe and secure throughout the project duration. Any grass or sidewalk areas impacted during the well installation will be promptly restored once the work is complete.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we carry out this vital work. We encourage you to contact us if you have any special concerns or are aware of any issues we should consider.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us monitor and protect our shared environment.
